Camden Town

Last Sunday(06/07/2014), I went (as you may know if you follow me on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter) to Camden Town, this residential area of the 1790s, which only became one of the most bustling parts of London with the development of the Grand Union Canal and railway transports. My verdict? I LOVED IT! I think it is with the West End one of the most artistic area of the city, which made me feel even more in my element!

Nowadays, visitors like me and locals go to this mythical place of London to hunt for treasures in Camden markets (you’ll have more details about them a bit later), romantically (or not!) stroll and have a yummy exotic lunch maybe by Regent’s Canal, gaze at the typical awesomely-designed buildings, try cuisine from all around the world, listen to live music and generally soak up the vibrant, diverse and multicultural atmosphere reigning there.

Practically speaking and, if you want to go to Camden and chill out a Sunday afternoon like I did last week, I would advise you to use the northern line of the tube and then stop at Camden Town station so as to be, as soon as you leave the underground, directly immersed into this beautiful particular British piece of world.

Camden high street…

Who doesn’t know this famous street with those so very typically Camden British houses and their 3D designs?!!! From shoes to flowers and all sorts of graffiti, Camden buildings are covered with those massive pieces of art like a body could be covered with tattoos.

Food and drinks…

What I’m about to say is true for food but for LITERALLY everything else too… Camden is a little part of London that gathers the entire world and its variety of cultures.

So… if you’re feeling peckish in Camden, No worries! You will find food from around the globe at many eateries and street vendors. Otherwise, you can also have a look at the Roundhouse if you’re going to a show and then have a try of their pre-theatre menu. And another good address I would suggest you is Gilgamesh, where amazing Asian food is served and where you can stay on to enjoy the trendy bar & club.

Live music in Camden…

Camden has always been a hub for London’s live music scene, with legendary venues that have launched many big names. Koko, the Underworld and Electric Ballroom are some places you can check out if you want to catch the latest bands. You can also see top jazz and blues performances at the Jazz Café, or theatrical performances from top UK companies, as well as films, art installations and gigs at the Roundhouse.

Camden markets…

The labyrinthine open-air markets of Camden will keep the keenest shoppers busy, with everything from vintage to futuristic designs on offer.

Here are listed the individual markets of Camden:

Camden Lock Market – crafts, books, clothing, jewellery and fast food & Camden Lock Village – clothing and accessories, as well as a range of unusual items

Activities in and around Camden…

Not only does Camden have many other things to offer apart from its legendary markets and outlets, such as edgy art exhibitions at the Cob Gallery, contemporary photography at Proud Camden or modern visual arts at the highly-acclaimed Camden Arts Centre, but the area in itself also has a lot to offer. For example, you can head to the ZSL London Zoo (where I will by the way go to on August, 1st at a zoo lates) which is set within Regent’s Parkor you can stroll along Regent’s Canal and its area that is often likened to a little Venice (but to be honest, that’s a British kind of Venice, if you know what I mean :p).
