With Valentine’s Day coming up, no one really wants to listen to songs for broken hearts. Yet, Essex artist Brooklyn‘s latest track may just be about to change your mind.
After wowing the The Voice UK team, the young woman released her first single online – ‘Hold Up‘, a remake of Neneh Cherry’s classic ‘Buffalo Stance’ – and the music video, which went viral, quickly reaching half a million views.
As for ‘Cupid’, the 21-year-old singer has relied on personal emotions and experiences to give birth to a heartfelt and heart-wrenching record, blaming the doings of Cupid for her hurting – ‘Cupid, it’s your fault for all the pain I’m going through right now. Why did you match me with somebody that doesn’t value love?’ she sings, her heart on her sleeves.
Gifted with soulful vocals and mermaid hair, Brooklyn is described as ‘ a self-proclaimed contradiction, [whose] ability to paint the darkest realms of a relationship on a song, then in the same breath the beauty of discovering love, has her constantly converting voice notes to songs’, in which the influence of R’n’B, Grime, and Hip-Hop delightfully come together.
