Magic Moments #18 – Summer in London

‘It’s not that hard. It’s really fucking simple. It was raining the whole day until I saw you and by the second you took my hand the sun was shining. ‘You’re way too attached to your melancholy’ they’ve told me, and I never really understood until now. If you find happiness and everything you’ve ever asked for, you take it. You thank the Gods and spirits and every atom in the universe for all the crooked roads and misguided nights because they led you here, to this very moment. You take care of it and make sure that you never ever take it for granted.

If you find happiness so beautiful that your heart is racing, you take it, you don’t give it away,

and you don’t fucking leave.’

– Charlotte Eriksson

‘Make friends with people who aren’t your age. Hang out with people whose first language isn’t the same as yours. Get to know someone who doesn’t doesn’t come from your social class. This is how you see the world. This is how you grow.’

Make friends with people who aren’t your age. DONE! Most of my friends are generally older than me but I think it’s even truer when it comes to the friends I met in London this summer and last year :) Hang out with people whose first language isn’t the same as yours. DONE! Yep done! and more than once but it was particularly the case of this summer! Get to know someone who doesn’t doesn’t come from your social class. DONE! ‘Course, that is in my opinion the easiest one to achieve, regarding how everyone – literally everyone – has a different social background.

This summer was another trip to London, another two months spent in this beautifully multicultural city that stole my heart, another journey thanks to which I went out of my routine cage, saw the world and grew up a little more.

It was so good to be back in London and you read how hard it was to leave again… I’ve already shared a few bits of this summer but I still have plenty in store! In this post, you’ll discover most of the photos of these busy holidays I published on Instagram (but don’t worry, there are also some others left to come…) as well as my favourite inspirational quotes and some pieces of my heart spread here and there between two lots of photos… (concerning the captions – let me tell you how this works – I put all the quotes and words of my heart under the collages and after each caption, you’ll be able to read to which picture the words correspond).

Before I let you read all this and immerse yourself into my own little creepy universe, I simply wanted to add and say once again how wonderful this summer was and how I incredibly miss it now that I’m back…

When I write it’s like going back home, I mean it… because I know my way around there and that just feels so good. Plus, I feel like everything’s possible in London because people believe in you – they believe in innovation and creation so much more than in France – and it’s kind of awesome when you’re a writer or rather want to become one. I always like to say that London is the European New York, the place where your dreams can come true, the place where you won’t be judged for what you want to do – as crazy as these things might be – or how you choose to dress.

Because in London, you can be who you want, but most importantly, you can be who you are.

‘RAID of teeshirts this afternoon! And each of them means something a little special to me… Top left corner is the one with the feather and the music notes – probably the most obvious since it represents POETRY… The one with the camera represents PHOTOGRAPHY and thus my second artistic thing… The one with the quote « it’s not about how you look, it’s about how you see » represents MY WAY OF THINKING… At the right bottom of the picture is the lovely romantic one reminding of how much I know how it feels to LOVE FROM A DISTANCE… And last but not least, there’s the owl one… Just because Ive fancied having a funny OWL on a teeshirt for ages!’ (Bottom right photo)

‘Write about us.

Because I will.

It will be simple…

I’ll be the words

And you’ll be the melody.

I wish I could write you a song,

A script

Or even a play

Since it’s your way of communicating

But I’m just a poet of the modern days

And my little creepy poetry is all I can offer you.

I need you…

to put the melody to my words,

to give sense to my thoughts,

And life to my ink.

You’re my eternal inspiration,

my lifetime muse…

You can do it.

We can be it.’

‘The most important things are the hardest to say. They are the things you get ashamed of, because words diminish them — words shrink things that seemed limitless when they were in your head to no more than living size when they’re brought out. But it’s more than that, isn’t it? The most important things lie too close to wherever your secret heart is buried, like landmarks to a treasure your enemies would love to steal away. And you may make revelations that cost you dearly only to have people look at you in a funny way, not understanding what you’ve said at all, or why you thought it was so important that you almost cried while you were saying it. That’s the worst, I think. When the secret stays locked within not for want of a tellar but for want of an understanding ear.’ – Stephen King

‘It feels good to think about you when I’m warm in bed. I feel as if you’re curled up there beside me, fast asleep. And I think how great it would be if it were true.’ – Haruki Murakami, Norwegian Wood

‘Oh my god! I can’t believe this day has come! How I’m going to miss this place – it’s just insane!

London, you are and will always be wonderful & unexpected and that’s why I love you! You’re my inspirational place, my secret garden, my home, my city – the one where my life is just a bit more beautiful…’

‘I also met an amazing artist at this Hyper Japan exhibition… She is called Destiny Blue and draws not only beautifully but also meaningfully! After a good long think, I eventually bought two of her drawings on Saturday which both mean something special to me. All of her art actually speaks to me but in a coming post, you’ll see and maybe understand why I chose the ones I did. :)’

‘Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.’ – No Man Is an Island, Thomas Merton

‘It was the pure Language of the World. It required no explanation, just as the universe needs none as it travels through endless time. What the boy felt at that moment was that he was in the presence of the only woman in his life, and that, with no need for words, she recognized the same thing. He was more certain of it than of anything in the world. He had been told by his parents and grandparents that he must fall in love and really know a person before becoming committed. But maybe people who felt that way had never learned the universal language. Because, when you know that language, it’s easy to understand that someone in the world awaits you, whether it’s in the middle of the desert or in some great city. And when two such people encounter each other, and their eyes meet, the past and the future become unimportant. There is only that moment, and the incredible certainty that everything under the sun has been written by one hand only. It is the hand that evokes love, and creates a twin soul for every person in the world. Without such love, one’s dreams would have no meaning.’

– Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist

‘London, you’ve been pretty amazing to me today :) A nice sun & lovely people at work… What else?! Maybe something actually… A huge part of my heart belongs to London but probably more than to this amazing city, it belongs to the wonderful people I met there. I’ve come home but something’s still missing… My heart is half home; the other one lies within my people… I can’t wait to see all these angels I’ve missed so so much this year…’ (Top left photo)

The best kind of people are the kind of people that come into your life, and make you see the sun where you once saw clouds. The people that believe in you so much you start to believe in yourself too. The people that love you for simply being you. These are the best kind of people.

‘On my birthday, my colleagues (but I’d rather call them friends) from Malvern House got me this lovely birthday card filled in with even lovelier words and accompanied by the loveliest flowers…

I feel very lucky to have met such friendly people during this summer’s internship ;) Very very blessed.’

‘“Keep writing, Keep reading; Keep learning.” – Matt Biss (best supervisor ever :D)

So today was my last day at Malvern House and it’s been a beautiful and amazing one! I’ve been teary nearly all day and cried my heart out a couple times but that’s ok… I mean I know I’ll never get used to saying goodbye to the people I love.

I’ve been hugged and thanked on this one single day (both by students and staff members I should actually call friends, because that’s what they are now – FRIENDS) more than I’ve ever been in my entire life!

I’ve had an amazing and very enriching two-month experience in this school. I’ve learnt so much, professionally & morally speaking. It was more than I had ever expected so… THANK YOU for that, for giving me this opportunity and letting me work like any other member of the staff… Thank you. To all of you, people (or ex-people) of Malvern House (and first of all, thanks Bruno for even getting me the job !)

Back to the people I’ve met there, I just want to say and emphasise the fact that they have not only been colleagues or students…
Staff members and teachers have become my friends – not only Facebook friends – but friends I know I can count on and who can count on me, friends I deeply care about and will miss loads! I mean, I guess it wouldn’t have happened in lots of places to have such an unforgettable leaving ‘thing’ with the sweetest leaving speech from my manager and friend, Matt, with beautiful & very kind messages and wishes from everyone, hugs from everyone, lovely attentions and more hugs… It’s a very special place with very special people – a big family.
And concerning students, I’ll keep in touch with a few of them, who sincerely made my days and have been sunshines in my daily 2014 summer life  Their wishes and thanks and hugs truly moved me too.

Here is the poem, the piece of my heart I left with them…
Take care of it. Love you all xxx’

‘Yesterday, a friend asked me what my ideal date would be.

And I said I didn’t know…

and now I still don’t know but I can try to give sort of an answer.

I would expect the ideal date to be everything but the common thought people have of a date.

I would just like something different I guess, something out of the ordinary and known… Something a little magic,

A little us.

Something simple

But something unexpected.’

‘thinking of you’ – common saying

‘when you feel alone

and don’t understand the world around you

just know that somewhere from the afar,

I’m thinking of you;

that there’ll always be one heart

that’s beating for you.’

« Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it! Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. » – Goethe

‘I admire you a lot for all your talent & kindness.

I know you’ll achieve great things

and I can’t wait to hear about them.

Plus, knowing you’re somewhere out here living a beautiful way – as I know you do –

letting your heart speak through your art,

that’ll all that’s necessary to bring a smile to my face.

Keep up, my friend,

Keep up.’

« The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart. » – Helen Keller

‘I have the same tickling butterflies,

the same thrills when I hear the soft & delicate sound of your voice,

and the exact same fulfilling, powerful & sometimes tearing emotions in my heart.

I’m not really sure what this is all about,

but it is something big…

huge even,

and infinite!

It makes me cry sometimes,

but those tears are not “tears of sadness or even tears of joy”

as Elizabeth Bard once wrote, “I am just overflowing. Like so many things since I’ve been there,

I don’t yet understand it,

but I feel it. »‘

When in a library earlier, I read a few pages of Gladwell’s book BLINK… and then felt quite content to know I wasn’t the only person to think the way I do.

In his book, he basically explains that sometimes we know things and we don’t know why, but we just do; sometimes we don’t have to think and we have the answer – we feel it, know it.

For example… I believe that we are all bound to someone else on this planet and the day we meet that someone, we know this is our soulmate, our second half. We just know it. There’s no reason to it – just the force of the bond. « The heart has its reasons of which reason knows nothing. » – It’s all about the bond.

Stumbled upon this piece of a heart today and… even though it’s not mine, every single word perfectly reveals my inner voice…

Plus, now seemed a very appropriate time for me to share it with you.

The city where I Loved the most. »
