People as Wonderful as Sunsets

First year… It already seems so far away from now but it was just some 300 days ago. Do you remember your first year at uni? Do you remember the very beginning? When you enter a brand new world. When you’re surrounded by hundreds of people you’ve never seen and who look like they’re going to swallow you in one single bite. When you finally understand what you’re meant for… or not! And simply… when your adult life begins.

Last year was such a great one for me… Of course, I spent those six amazing and so enriching months in England, where I met people who completely changed me as well my heart, mind and soul. But today, I won’t write about England (Surprising?! Don’t worry, it won’t be long before I publish another SO British article ^^), I will tell you about my life at uni – or more precisely about my wonderful friends and the people I never thought I would have so many things to share with :)

This post you’re currently reading originates from the extremely adorable attention of two girls of my German class. Last week was a week off for all of us and these two lucky girls had the chance to go back to London for a few days (How I envied them! But at the same time, it’s kind of reassuring when people you know and appreciate are in the city of your heart; it’s just as if they were the guardians, who’re taking great care of your most precious treasure). Anyway, as you might have seen it on Facebook or Instagram, these two sweethearts brought me a little souvenir from their trip to THE city and, what else than those great Baby Lips lip balms?!

Paulo Coelho once wrote, “The simple things are also the most extraordinary”. And Oh God, how right was this man! It doesn’t take a lot to make someone smile, even just for a while, if you know them at least a little. These girls were the people I thought (at the beginning of my first year at uni) I would never have anything to share with, but look at us now! I even found out, and no later than today, that one of them (the one who went to Australia for her internship last year) had a friend, who graduated in performing arts at WAAPA (the same Academy Jamie went to ^^) and who had just got the role of Eponine in Les Misérables – Australia. How fantastic is that!

It’s just so great to see what the relations within a class have become. We barely talked to each other last year and today, I could not possibly imagine my life at uni without knowing them, as well as so many other persons I’ve learnt to know since we all came back from abroad. Some people say we are not 85 (or so) united people but I definitely think we are! We might not be best friends, but we DO know each other and we’re caring for one another. At least, that’s how I feel about the people at ESTRI, and I’m so glad to have them. They’re little sunshines in my everyday life.

Once again, take the example of these two girls, who had a thought for me when they were in London. They knew I did miss this place and my people terribly. They fundamentally know it. And they took this simple piece of knowledge into great consideration and made something beautiful out of it.

I’m sorry, but… Aren’t those people the one we would call our FRIENDS?!

Knowing that I miss London and dedicating some time trying to relieve me from this pain… That’s what I call being human and that’s what I call being friends.

I’m thanking them again, because this lovely little attention deeply moved me and touched the very bottom of heart. It made me all teary to receive this gift from them and, for this reason, I want them to know that I’ll always be grateful to the people who have amazing hearts such as theirs.

Thank you for being you, dear people. Stay amazing & Keep shining.

“People are just as wonderful as sunsets if you let them be. When I look at a sunset, I don’t find myself saying, ‘Soften the orange a bit on the right hand corner.’ I don’t try to control a sunset. I watch with awe as it unfolds.”

I’m still friends with people I met on my first day at Uni and that’s, like, a million or so years ago. I found myself/redefined myself at University so it was v important to me.
